ABOUT THE SHEEP CRC

The Sheep CRC is a partnership of Australia’s leading sheep industry organisations and is supported under the Australian Government’s Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) Program.
 

The aim of the CRC Program is to turn Australia's scientific innovations into successful new products, services and technologies, and make the Australian sheep industry more efficient, productive and competitive.

The role of the CRC is to facilitate transformation of the sheep industry through making sheep easier to manage, developing the production and processing of meat and wool to meet increasing consumer expectations and by increasing the uptake of new technologies by the industry.

Under the Commonwealth Agreement, the Cooperative Research Centre for Sheep Industry Innovation (Sheep CRC) was established for a term of seven years with effect from July 2007 to undertake a program of research and delivery of innovation to the Australian sheep industry. This follows on from the successful work of the Australian Sheep Industry CRC (Sheep CRC1) that commenced in July 2001 and was completed in June 2007. As part of the Commonwealth requirements for new successful bids, the CRC was incorporated as a Public Company limited by guarantee, called Sheep CRC Ltd.  With funding from the Australian Government, as well as funding and in-kind contributions from its industry Participants, the Sheep CRC will invest $111 million in research, development, extension and education over its seven year life.
