Tues 16th March 2010 - Selection Assist

This software developed by Jess Richards, Col Langford, Kevin Atkins and Phil Graham, NSW DPI, will enable advisors or classers to help producers decide on a breeding direction, which is applicable to their flock. The aim of this program is to give additional information to enable producers to be more confident about what the likely outcome of a breeding objective will be. It also shows the impact of reproductive rates and where the progress can come from within a flock.

The OFFM Calculator has been developed by K.D. Atkins and S.J.Semple, with support and funding from Australian Wool Innovation,as a multi-purpose tool that can be downloaded from the web-for regular review and as an MS Excel tool for interactive training during workshop development and workshop delivery. Basic information on flock size and structure and average (adult) fibre diameter are required. The output is in the form of a profit map over time with some suggested changes for increasing profit by altering structure or selection method.
