New Board Director for Sheep CRC - 26 June 2009

An innovative producer and sheep meat processor from Narrogin, WA, Mr Peter Trefort, has joined the Sheep CRC Board of Directors.

Under its mission of ‘transforming wool, meat and the sheep that produce them’, the Sheep CRC’s CEO, Professor James Rowe, says Mr Trefort brings a range of invaluable experiences and insights.

"Peter is a very strong advocate for the sheep industry and has a large ongoing commitment to this industry – he has more than 40 years’ experience in sheep and cattle production and management across the supply chain.

"He is a Director of Hillside Meats which has been successful in developing and commercialising a new range of lamb cuts to extend markets, and a Director of WA Q-Lamb supply chain which is widely known for its quality control and consistency of supply.

"Also significantly, Peter is a MLA Board Director, and as such, has an excellent understanding of industry issues and the role of R & D in resolving key issues with practical solutions."

Prof Rowe adds that Mr Trefort has contributed to local and regional development and training initiatives.

"His appointment ensures the Sheep CRC continues to have the required industry skills to guide the progression of our exciting and extensive R&D program.
